Encana eyes Permian oil with $7.1 billion Athlon Energy buy

CALGARY, Alberta -- Encana Corporation has agreed to buy Texas-based Athlon Energy for $7.1 billion as the Canadian company seeks to boost oil production. The acquisition will add Athlon' s land position of approximately 140,000 net acres focused solely in the heart of the oil-rich Midland basin to Encana' s portfolio.
